Today it's NINI's birthday. Everytime I hear the expression 'happy birthday' I can't help thinking about an anecdote that happened to me many years ago when I was part of an IUFM jury recruiting new teachers. The day had been quite long when a guy came in who must have been our 20th or so candidate. He had to explain to us how he would teach a class of CM2 introducing a new language or cultural point. He immediately told us that he felt it was very important to teach French kids the tradition of 'Happy birthday'. After a moment of bewilderment, my colleague and I started laughing and soon got into a fit of the giggles. We felt awful about the whole situation but the guy kept on, unwavering. I couldn't hold my papers straight and was almost under the table when he came to an end, repeating proudly how important it was for French kids to get to know this type of typical British tradition. We just about managed to thank him and apologize for our nervous state due to our very long day of assessing candidates. If you have any other funny remembrance of 'happy birthdays' please share it here. And of course 'happy birthday Nini!'

This is a new dawn , a new day for Alix in her marvellous Englishland. For years friends have been asking me for advice or lessons to improve their English. Virginie and I meet from time to time to have an English conversation. ..... which made me think that I had created this blog years back so I have now decided that I could use this blog with friends or anyone willing to speak, improve their English and eventually more... as long as it is in English! So let's go for it, I will post info that I find interesting in English and you can comment on it, ask for correction, correct my mistakes if you're a native speaker and contribute.... This is a new life for the blog! Welcome!
